‘Water Led Design’.
‘Water and Landscape’ -a fortnightly web talk series 3.3
With glaciers and ice caps melting, seas rising, rain patterns changing, storms increasing in numbers and ferocity, it is not enough to design for water; it is time for water to lead design. In this lecture we will look at what this means in the context of landscape design in India at various scales. How can we envision places that thrive by holding wetness rather than draining water off land presumed to be dry. We will share some of the work that we are doing with urban design students at Columbia University in various cities in India, in Ethiopia, Vietnam and elsewhere.
