ISOLA EB Research Symposium 2023

Friday, 17th and Saturday, 18th of February, 2023.
Time: (tentative) 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on February 17th and 18th

Greetings!

The Indian Society of Landscape Architects (ISOLA) is organising the ISOLA_EB ( Education Board) Research Symposium 2023.

The second symposium of ISOLA- ISOLA Resource Symposium lead by the ISOLA Resource centre & ISOLA EC is scheduled to be conducted at Chennai, Tamilnadu on February 17th & 18th (sessions will be tentatively from 9.30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m-detailed schedule will be shared shortly)

The theme of the symposium is ‘Data Collection and Data Analysis’ & the primary focus of the symposium is:

  • To demonstrate ways of creating/collecting data with case studies
  • To Discuss and demonstrate the application of data in the field of landscape architecture.

The Symposium also explores the varying processes and their needs in the broad landscape parameters (as sub themes) of:

  • Landforms
  • Vegetation
  • Water bodies and
  • Stakeholders.

The symposium is envisaged as a combination of Presentations by eminent speakers ( in the domain of both practice and academia ) along with Mentorship sessions.

The mentorship sessions will cover the Workshops on the subthemes and are a unique opportunity for those who are already engaged in or beginning active research providing an opportunity for one-on-one discussions on their current work with senior researchers and professionals.

The call for research abstracts is presently open and it ends on 18th January 2023.Please find attached with this mail the poster with details of the speakers and the broad topics which will be covered during the two-day symposium. The details for the abstract submissions can also be accessed on the ISOLA website.

The participants for the mentorship session will be selected after a peer review of the abstract of their current research work. Other participants will have the opportunity to participate in these mentorship sessions as observers.

We are sure that attending this symposium will be of great advantage to:

  • Practitioners with research inclination in pure/applied research, and
  • LA practices seeking mentorship in their research based projects.

    Conference Focus

    The conference explored questions such as the change in the meaning and interpretation of the term ‘leisure time’ and ‘leisure activity’ and what it has come to signify for landscape architecture as a profession. The degree of integration and inclusiveness of leisure spaces with the built and natural fabric in the past and present was also examined.

Conference Focus

The conference examined the role of public spaces, especially the open spaces in
the city, and focused on the values of public spaces and the myriad overlaps and
interweaves that create a multi-faced, multifaceted, multilayered potpourri of usage,
behavior, culture, architecture, and art.

It addressed the need to look beyond conventional approaches to landscape planning
and design, with an emphasis on understanding and integrating facets of culture,
ecology, and place.
